That seems a fair analysis from someone in the loop. From someone out of it, and if what you say is the crux of it, then it sounds like there’ll be a need for theatres to be as bold as they were in instigatating inclusivity in the first place to rebalance the artform.

That being said, to bite the hand that feeds you is only sensible if you have another food source, so I can’t see many theatres shunning the Art Council dollar any time soon. Could this lead to a rise in underground venues as the audiences in the mainstays fall? Maybe a bit dystopian?
