I think a reason people are becoming more stupid is because technology results in us asking less of our brains – they’re atrophying and losing the ability for more complex thought.

For example, before satnav, if I was driving from A to B and I didn’t know how to make the journey, I’d have to look it up on a map beforehand, make a note of the waypoints, and pay attention to the road markings to get there successfully. Now, I just follow a little blue arrow and do not have to think in the slightest – I follow blindly, and I’m worse for it.
